.

THE ORGANISATION

The organisation was established by human rights lawyers who have over 15 years of experience of working in local and multilateral organisations dedicated to advancing migrants and refugee rights and protection in the Asia Pacific.

The organisation was established with the primary objective of operating as a specialised centre for forced migration that seeks to further the development of rights-based advocacy for refugees and forced migrants through legal empowerment, research, policy, and advocacy.

MAP International was incorporated on May 4, 2022, as an ‘association’ under Swiss law.

OBJECTIVES

MAP International's objective is to end the marginalisation of refugees and irregular migrants by encouraging their access to mainstream legal systems. Our focus is particularly across countries in the Asia-Pacific that have not signed or ratified the international conventions governing the obligations and responsibilities of States towards refugees and migrants.

In the long run, the organisation aims to promote South-South cooperation on shaping stronger protection frameworks, and North-South cooperation in burden-sharing. It seeks to do this through the adoption of innovative approaches to identify and operationalise programmes to integrate migrants/ refugees into existing legal systems within their country of asylum, thereby ensuring access to universal human rights and dignity.

VISION

Design effective legal protection programmes for migrants and refugees across countries in the Global South, with a focus on Asia Pacific.

Vocalise ground-level realities across the Global South to multilateral agencies in Geneva.

Strengthen and empower local communities and grassroot support structures.

Operate as a cutting-edge research-hub for rigourous multi-disciplinary studies and analysis of migration issues.
